Maternity unit at Heatherwood hospital

Volunteers from the National Childbirth Trust are campaigning for the retention of a maternity unit at Heatherwood hospital
Andrew MacKay - a campaign supporter - said: "I particularly share their concerns about the future of the maternity unit at Heatherwood which is used by the majority of mothers from Bracknell." Government Plans to address affordable housing have not impressed a borough housing chief.

Fears for Heatherwood Hospital

Mr Bryant of Priestwood is so worried about the future of Heatherwood that he has launched a petition asking Prime Minister Gordon Brown to intervene in the erosion of services at the hospital.
MP Andrew MacKay said: "I am very worried that in the strange reorganisation of the NHS the government has been recently undertaking that Heatherwood could be sold off for possible development. This could mean hospital facilities would be moved much further away from my constituents in Bracknell and this would be a disaster."

The Borough Council has called on developers to design buildings with "high levels of energy efficiency".
The proposal includes measures for minimising pollution and will form part of the borough's planning policy. Residents have until 11 January to lodge their views.

Councils in England are to be granted powers to tax households on how much rubbish they throw away, but people living in Bracknell Forest will escape the charges thanks to their environmentally friendly ethos

"We are now recycling 41% of our waste, which is brilliant. People in Bracknell Forest should be very proud of themselves."

Fewer people are injured or killed on Bracknell Forest roads than anywhere else in the South East.
Councillor Dale Birch said he was pleased with the low number of incidents in the survey and it proved the council took road safety very seriously.

A renewable energy centre in the town sited on the 3M roundabout was planned. No company could provide a commercially viable solution for a renewable energy centre in the current market, and therefore this part of the overall plan cannot go-ahead.
Nevertheless, Bracknell Forest Borough Council and Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) remain committed to providing a sustainable town centre

Rebuild of Garth Hill College.

The £25million project will involve constructing a brand new school, demolishing the old buildings and providing top class sports facilities for use by students and the local community.

Council condemns "done deal" for health services

Cllr Birch said: "The people of Bracknell Forest were not given any real choice, this was already a done deal. There was never an option to retain the status quo and the whole consultation has been a complete charade as far as I can see. We have been betrayed by a health authority bent on balancing books rather than delivering real care locally.
"The three areas in East Berkshire all have very different needs and we are extremely concerned that the plans will see our local services deteriorating.

Motion may see a significant reduction in the number of houses

A motion put forward by Cllr Mary Ballin, Bracknell Forest Borough Council's executive member for planning and transport, to the South East Regional Assembly last week, means a review into housing numbers in the future.
The Thames Valley Basin, which includes Crowthorne, has been designated an EU Special Protection Area (SPA), in which development is severely limited.

A motion passed at a full council meeting said £2.8 million of East Berkshire's Primary Care Trust's budget that was clawed away to plug a Milton Keynes shortfall should be returned to East Berkshire.
A similar motion in West Berkshire Council was passed unanimously, even though the Conservatives only have a majority of one

Some neighbours and businesses in Binfield Road, Bracknell, have become increasingly concerned about plans for the energy centre due to be built on the 3M roundabout
They have written to Bracknell MP Andrew MacKay, who has urged the borough council to hold a public meeting inviting resident and experts so that an informed decision can be reached. He said there was a lot of speculation at the moment and everyone needed to be satisfied that this is appropriate site.

He was attending an investiture gathering of the Knights of St John in Rhodes when he died.
